The Voyage to the Heart of the Amazon is the most thorough, detailed trip offered in the entire Amazon. The guides are accomplished naturalists and on the trip guests see creatures almost never seen by other visitors. The trip is an active trip and guests explore the rain-forest on foot and in the ship’s launches. The small groups will be led by skilled naturalist guides so that participants will be able to experience the wilderness in the most authentic way possible.  For those travellers that want an Amazon Cruise that is truly authentic, enriching in experience and educational, – the  MY Tucano Amazon Cruises are a great choice and endorsed by National Geographic as being one of the best Amazon cruises available.

Whilst not a luxury vessel – the MY Tucano is a comfortable riverboat that can take up to 16 passengers and its crew. The cabins have private facilities and are well maintained during the cruise. The low passenger numbers ensures that the cruise is intimate and enriching. The emphasis is definitely on the river, the jungle and the life of all the species that reside in this area of the Brazilian Amazon and the naturalist guides and crew on the Tucana are truly experts in their field and are a wealth of information to the guests. The cruise starts and finishes in Manaus and makes its way far up the river Negro into pristine river waters and remote jungle. You have the choice of either 5 days or 7 days programmes.

There are four off the boat excursions every day; some are canoe excursions, others are on terra firma, walking in dense jungle. There are also some visits to local communities and villages as well as kayaking on the river. The choice is yours – it can be as active or relaxing as you wish. Depending on the time of year you travel, will depend on which wildlife you can encounter as the river changes its water levels very dramatically. The Rio Negro has a high acidity level naturally and hence have very few mosquitoes and is the reason for its almost black water. There are very real chances of spotting pink dolphins, caimans, monkeys, snakes and a huge variety of birds – not to mention the tucans that reside in abundance . This cruise is a bird watchers dream come true! Every care has been taken to protect the environment and leave as few ecological footprints as possible while conducting the daily excursions and the welfare of the peoples you will encounter during the trip. A truly magnificent “green” experience.

The Amazon Odyssey 5D/4N

Day 1 Manaus, Rio Negro: Afternoon depart Manaus, Brasil and voyage north on the Rio Negro into the Anavilhanas Archipelago.

Day 2 Rio Negro: Excursions in the forest during the day, weather permitting, night excursion. Visit to a small village.

Day 3 Rio Negro: Further exploration of small channels and magnificent rainforest in the greatest wilderness on earth.

Day 4 Confluence of Amazon and Negro Rivers: Explore Lago Janauari Ecological Park, afternoon excursion among river settlements and hunt for a Piranha or two. Tonight cruise upstream on Rio Negro past one of the great ports of the world, Manaus.

Day 5 Manaus: Disembark in the morning.

Please note that all of our trips are exploratory and we adapt the vessel course to maintain an interesting cruise. In the month of November and sometimes in October, we may alter the itinerary due to low river levels. This may include voyaging more on the Rio Negro than the Amazon River. But this does not diminish the cruise, instead it allows us to improvise in seeking interesting places to visit.

Voyage to the Heart of the Aamazon 7D/6N
Days 1-3 In our well equipped expedition boat The Motor Yacht Tucano, we explore far up the least inhabited river in the Amazon, The Rio Negro. We explore the forest by foot or in our launches, go for swims in the cleanest water in the world, visit with local settlers that live deep in the forest, and spend a great deal of time hunting for and observing the greatest collection of wildlife on earth.

Day 4 We arrive at extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi and spend the day in this unspoiled and lovely rainforest area.

Days 5 Today we proceed down the southwestern bank of the Rio Negro observing the different wildlife found on this side of the river. Our walks and explorations of the forest continue and our list of creatures observed gets larger and larger.

Day 6 This morning we visit the Lago Janauari Ecological Park where the thick brown water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. This area is thick with life and we are almost guaranteed to see monkeys. We then travel to the “Encontra das Aguas” the stark several mile long line where the world’s two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom. In the evening we will return to Manaus and overnight on the boat.

Day 7 After breakfast passengers will disembark from the Tucano and in the afternoon or evening, transfer to the international airport.

Degree of Difficulty: Passengers must be able to get in and out of small boats and walk comfortably for up to two hours at a time in the forest.
Group Size: Maximum of 9 cabins.
