Day 1, Lima
You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2, Lima, Iquitos & Amazon Riverboat
Early start this morning with a flight to Iquitos. On arrival you will enjoy a tour of the river port city with a short visit to the Manatee Rescue Centre. Transfer to the ship. Departure to the confluence of the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers. It is in this area, which is generally considered to be the origin of the Amazon River. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – 7, Exploration of the Amazon, Marañon and Ucayali Rivers
You will spend your time on board sailing and learning about this amazing area of Peru. The incredible bio-diversity of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve will unfold before your eyes as you explore the rainforest, interact with the locals as you visit remote villages, and learn about the various Amazon wildlife.
There will be plenty of photo opportunities as you watch out for sloths, monkeys, a large variety of birds and the distinctive pink river dolphins. Over the next few days you will experience the wonders of the Amazon Rainforest as you enjoy guided walks in the jungle and on-board lectures. Visit a local shaman who will introduce you to his mystical craft of spiritual healing and impart his knowledge of rainforest plants that the indigenous peoples have used for centuries.
Perhaps try your hand at some piranha fishing or take a cooking lesson and learn how to make traditional jungle dishes. Enjoy evening jungle walks to look out for the nocturnal wildlife including the caiman. Stop at the town of Nauta and visit the local market. (B,L,D)
Day 8, Iquitos & Lima
Today it’s time to disembark and return to the airport for the flight back to Lima. Transfer to your hotel and remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Day 9, Lima
At the appropriate time you will be transferred to the airport. (B)
