The eastern part of Venezuela is the right area to explore if you want to experience the diversity of nature and culture. Of course, the western part of Venezuela holds much in store, as well as its capital, Caracas.
Venezuela is considered a real insider tip that boasts scenic beauty and unspoiled nature, but it was so far been spared from major tourist flows.
Best time to travel: a holiday within the dry season (November to May) is a little more comfortable, but due to constant temperatures all year Venezuela is basically a dream destination, the Angel Falls is worth seeing, especially in the rainy season
Day 1 Caracas
Arrival to Maiquetía International Airport by intercontinental flight. Reception and transfer to hotel. Overnight stay. Meals: – / – / –
Day 2 Caracas – Carúpano – Río Caribe
Transfer to the airport for flight to Carúpano. Arrival and transfer to Río Caribe in the Paria Peninsula and check-in at the posada. The sensation is that of arriving in a forest of green hills with an almost impenetrable thick vegetation that hugs the sea, creating bays with small beaches, cliffs where the waves break, fishing ports with a colonial past sometimes recognizable from the old houses and historic remnants. The green hills are home to cocoa, coconut and banana plantations while fishing is the main activity on the coast. Meals: B / – / D
Day 3 Río Caribe
Free day for individual activities or excursions. An excursion to one of the many cocoa haciendas in the area is recommended to see the plantations and the cultivation and processing of cocoa. Meals: B / – / D
Day 4 Río Caribe
Free day for individual activities or excursions. A visit to Playa Medina, one of the region’s most spectacular beaches, to Puy Puy or to smaller inlets hiding beautiful tropical beaches is recommended. Meals: B / – / D
Day 5 Río Caribe – Orinoco Delta
Car transfer in the morning to Boca de Uracoa and continuation by boat to the camp in the Orinoco Delta. The second largest in the American continent after the Amazonian delta, it is a labyrinth of “caños” (canals) that form impenetrable green islands so that the jungle seems to expand and swallow the course of the river. In the midst of these canals, small paddled canoes from the local communities are seen traveling from a village to the next. The Warao inhabit the shores of the canals in typical wooden and thatched houses built in stitches over the water.
Meals: B / – / D
Days 6 and 7 Orinoco Delta
Day for activities in the delta. Navigation by fast boat to the most remote and primitive areas with various breaks to visit the Warao communities, walk in the jungle to discover the local flora and fauna and enter the narrowest “caños”. Overnight stay. Meals: B / L / D
Day 8 Orinoco Delta – Ciudad Bolívar
Morning boat transfer to Boca de Uracoa and by car to Ciudad Bolívar. Arrival after about three hours and check-in at the posada. Ciudad Bolívar, founded in 1595 with the name “Santo Tomé de la Guayana de la Angostura del Orinoco”, is on the banks of the narrowest end of the Orinoco river. On the streets of the historic center, you still breath colonial times walking on cobblestone streets lined by colonial buildings. Meals: B / – / D
Day 9 Ciudad Bolívar – Canaima National Park
Transfer to the airport and departure to Canaima. Arrival, transfer and check-in at the lodge. Lunch and afternoon excursion in “curiara” -local motor canoe- along the Canaima lagoon. Visitors will be struck by the majesty of the Auyantepuy and the Cañón del Diablo, one of the most impressive in the world and the source of the famous Angel Falls, named after its discoverer the pilot Jimmie Angel. The water and surface foam in rivers and lagoons are usually pink, a phenomenon generated by the presence of tannin, an organic acid produced by vegetation decomposing under the sun. Dinner and overnight stay. Meals: B / L / D
Day 10 Canaima National Park
Free day for individual activities. A visit to the base of the Angel Falls, to Orquídea Island, Kavak or El Sapo waterfall are recommended. Meals: B / L / D
Day 11 Canaima National Park – Caracas
Transfer to the airport and flight over the Angel Falls, which at 979 meters high is considered the world’s tallest waterfall. The sound of the water falling from Cañón del Diablo and the surrounding forest make this one of the most fascinating spots in Venezuela! It was seen for the first time by Jimmie Angel, the adventurous North American pilot, who over flew it on the Flamingo in October 1937. The airplane’s mechanical problems forced him, his wife and two other passengers on a lucky landing on the top of the Auyantepuy (2.500 m). Unscathed, they decided to descend the course of the Carrao river and after 11 days managed to return to civilization. Return to Canaima and flight to Caracas. Arrival, airport assistance and departure by intercontinental flight. Meals: B / – / –
